CPC merges with Philadelphia Chapter

We are very pleased to announce that the Board of our Association has approved the merger of the Central PA and Philadelphia SLA Chapters.  The effective date of the merger is November 1, 2008.  The combined Chapter will continue to be called the Philadelphia Chapter.

We would like to thank the Boards and the Merger task force members from both Chapters who planned and organized the merger discussions and  prepared the documents for the consideration of the Association's Board.  We especially would like to thank all the members of both Chapters who participated in the merger vote and voiced their strong approval for the merger.

Our next steps will be to follow through on the steps we need to complete the merger, including combining financial accounts, investigating and piloting technologies to make meetings more accessible from a distance, and organizing a combined membership and email communication list.  For the time being, both chapters will maintain separate email lists (at least until the end of the year) while we take steps to create a unified list.  Elections
for new Chapter officers, including a director selected from among the Central PA Chapter members, will take place at the Philadelphia Chapter's Annual Holiday party and auction at Brym Mawr College on Thursday evening, December 4, 2008.

Update on merger with SLA Philadelphia Chapter

We are very pleased to announce that the members of the Philadelphia and Central PA SLA Chapters have voted to merge the two chapters. The new chapter will continue to be called the Philadelphia Chapter.

Ninety-one percent of half the eligible members of the Central PA Chapter voted for the merger. Forty-five per cent of Philadelphia Chapter's members participated in the vote and 87% of those who voted approved the merger.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the vote. We also want to thank the Boards and the Merger task force members from both Chapters who planned and organized the merger discussions and documents.

Our next step will be to write a letter to SLA informing them of the vote and requesting for formal approval of the merger. We believe this will be granted. Nominations for new Chapter officers (President-Elect, Treasurer and Director) are currently being solicited. In accordance with the merger agreement, a member of the existing Central PA Chapter will stand for the Director position.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Rod MacNeil

Leadership Summit 2008

I'm in Louisville for the 2008 SLA Leadership Summit. The Kentucky Chapter has been a wonderful host, and Beth Transue and I have had a very busy (and productive) couple of days. I'll post news of interest to the chapter here, but I'm also blogging about the summit at DIY Librarian, starting with the keynote by futurist Andy Hines.
