GLBTIC looks to have a full schedule at the SLA 2009 Annual Conference. Here are the planned events:
Saturday June 13 6:30PM
- 8:00PM (Last year’s time)Capital Pride Parade
The actual time for this event is based off of last year’s
time slot and may change. The theme for 2009 will be Generations of Pride:
Celebrate and Remember Stonewall at 40. We probably won’t have money to have a
float in the parade but Eric and I are speaking with Capital Pride to be able
to have a group march in the parade. Information about it will not posted in the online planner; we
will post up to date information on the website, blog, and listserve. General
information about the parade and 2008’s parade is available at:

Saturday June 13
9pm-? Two options:
Capital Pride’s Unity Party at a local dance
club. Last year’s tickets sold for between $10-20. More information about last
year’s party is available at:
http://www.metroweekly.com/prideguide/index2.php?ak=
GLBTIC Welcoming Party followed by a Pub
Crawl-Hosted by a DC GLBTIC member. Similar to what Chris M. had for us in
Seattle.
Please if you haven’t already given me your preference on
which even let me know as soon as possible so we plan appropriately and get
everyone the best information. Neither one of these events will be in the
online conference planner but as we get more information will be posted on
website, blog, and listserve.
Sunday June 14
8pm-11pm-Reception at the Spy Museum. This will probably be a ticketed
event $5 a ticket payable when you register for the Conference. COL William H.
Pietsch, Jr., one of the first agents in the OSS (Office of
Strategic Services), which is the
predecessor to the CIA is tentatively booked as our speaker
for this event. We will be cosponsoring this event with the Competitive
Intelligence Division, the Military
Libraries Division, Information Futurist Caucus. I’ve
personally toured the museum before and can personally attest that this is well
worth the $5 ticket price. Not to mention this should be an excellent
networking opportunity and a chance for the Caucus to increase its visibility.
More information about this event will be in the online planner when it becomes
available. In the meantime you can learn more about the Spy Museum at:

Tuesday June 16
1:30pm-3pm GLBTIC Business meeting. The brief business meeting will include
planning and election of co-convener(s) for SLA 2010 in New Orleans.
Following our business portion of the
meeting, Charles Francis will speak on the collection and historical
significance of the papers of the gay rights pioneer Franklin Edward Kameny,
Ph.D. (Kameny turns 84 in 2009). The Kameny Archive includes thousands of pages
of letters, government correspondence, testimony, photographs, picket signs and
other memorabilia. The Kameny Papers trace the arc of the gay civil equality
movement in the U.S. through Kameny's life and activism from the 1950s to the
present and are now a part of the Library of Congress’s Manuscript Collection.
More information about the collection is available at:
http://www.kamenypapers.org/
As the driving force behind the LoC’s acquisition of the
collection Mr. Francis was awarded one of GLAA's Distinguished Service Awards
for 2007:
