You're Not Alone: GovLoop and OhMyGov!

From Get a Life: Get in the Loop on the FCW.com 'Get A Life!' blog comes word of two relatively new and decidedly unofficial websites. The first, GovLoop, calls itself "the premier social network connecting the government community." Anyone can join; you do not have to be a government employee. The site has a blog, groups, discussions, event listings, and more. You must join to view most of the content.

The other site FCW covers is the irreverant OhMyGov!, a mix of news and humor. The site has a blog that can be browsed by one of three major topics, Agency, Issue, and Outrage. (Outrage subcategories include "Band-Aid Fixes" and "Not My Job!") The site's stated mission is "to improve government by inspiring and cultivating change through the spread of information and ideas, the use of innovative online tools, and the strategic deployment of satire and wit."

Great blog. As the founder of GovLoop.com, I appreciate you mentioning my site.

I encourage all SLA GID members to join GovLoop.com. It is a safe place to connect and collaborate with others working in government (whether that's a fed/state/local, student/academic, non-profits, consultants, etc).

There's already some great discussions that would interest librarians such as how to use social media in government and visioning the future of government.
