October 14 is international Open Access Day

The first Open Access Day will be held on Tuesday, 14 October 2008. Open Access Day is designed to "to broaden awareness and understanding of Open Access, including recent mandates and emerging policies, within the international higher education community and the general public." See the website for planned events. The site also has a list of participating libraries and institutions around the world and a long list of "downloadables, creatables, and educational resources."

The Open Access Day Founding Partners are SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), Students for FreeCulture, and the Public Library of Science.
