FDsys Replaces GPO Access in 2009
The US Government Printing Office (GPO) plans to launch the first public release of FDsys in January 2009. FDsys, short for Federal Digital System, is the content management system and public search platform designed to replace the aging GPO Access system. GPO plans to operate both FDsys and GPO Access in 2009 until all content has been migrated to the new system. According to an October 2008 GPO presentation (PPT), "once a collection has been migrated, day forward content for the collection will be included in FDsys". For details, see the October 2008 issue of Techline, GPO's FDsys newsletter.
GPO has been releasing a series of FDsys video demonstrations on YouTube. To date, they have released a Simple Search Demonstration and an Advanced Search Demonstration. FDsys will also have a Citation Search and a Boolean Search. For updates on the videos as well as on FDsys progress, check out the FDsys blog at http://fdsys.blogspot.com/. Presentations and documentation are available on the FDsys project page at http://www.gpo.gov/projects/fdsys.htm.
