A note from our chair (who needs to line up a representative by 31 July!):
Hi Everyone,
SLA is looking to increase awareness and value of the SLA Annual Conference, starting with next year, which will be be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. SLA wants to reach out more deeply into the community, organizations and non-SLA members and is looking for assistance from Divisions (and Chapters) in this Public Relations campaign that will run from September 2010 - June 2011. The "Need to Know Forum" will be marketed as a shortened attendance option to pull in non-members in the area. Please see the message below for details.
The goal is for each Division to make connections with the target community in the region in order to build awareness of the value in attending the Annual Conference - such as learning from and networking with colleagues and meeting with exhibitors representing leading companies in our field. In our case, DGI's target community are those with work with government information or in government libraries or are remotely connected to government information. And, thinking about the possibilities, theoretically quite a large potential number. So, perhaps, reaching out to and working with a local chapter or student association would leverage and maximize our involvement and efforts. The DGI representative (or representatives if more than one is interested) would participate in a Web-Ex meeting in early September 2010 and then be in charge of how best to plan & implement our division's participation with this endeavor.
As the DGI rep in this endeavor, this is a wonderful opportunity to participate in a major marketing campaign, practice communications and project management skills and network. Being able to participate in an activity that would have such a lasting return - increasing awareness of the value of SLA membership as well as DGI is an extra bonus.
The deadline for is the end of July - yes, the end of this week. Please let me know if you are interested in this leadership opportunity.
