Call for Nominations

Nominations Committee chair Richard Huffine has issued a call for nominations via the Government Information Division discussion list. Excerpted from Richard's email:

The elected positions we need to fill in the SLA Government Information Division this Fall are:

• Chair-Elect (3 year commitment: chair-elect, chair, past chair) - This person will be responsible for leading conference planning for the Division at the SLA Conference in Washington, DC in 2009. This SLA centennial event will require an investment of time and a significant professional commitment.
• Secretary (1 year commitment) - This person needs to be able to attend the SLA Annual Conference in Seattle in June, 2008 for the DGI Board and Business meetings. The ability to attend the Leadership Summit in Louisville in January, 2008 is also highly desirable.
• Director (1 year commitment) - This person assists the Chair and may lead a number of special efforts for the Division.
• Director (2 year commitment) - This person assists the Chair and may lead a number of special efforts for the Division.

We are looking for a few good people to step forward and help shape our Division in the years to come! If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Richard Huffine, richardhuffine@yahoo.com, by August 31, 2007.

The Nominations Committee for the SLA Government Information Division (DGI) is seeking candidates for three positions on its Executive Board: Chair-Elect, Secretary, and Director. The deadline for nominations has been extended to April 6, 2006.

Terms for these positions will begin January 1, 2007, but we would like them to be ready for approval at the annual SLA  conference in June 2006.  SEND nominations to: Tom Rink at trink@ci.tulsa.ok.us. Please include: name as registered with SLA, full contact information, desired office, and a brief statement of interest including any information on past SLA activities or offices held. Volunteers Needed for Annual Conference

The SLA Annual Conference in Baltimore, Maryland June 11-14, 2006 is going to be a big event for the Government Information Division!  We are sponsoring three programs and co-sponsoring at least three more.  The programs will cover the gamut of issues that government information professionals are facing today.  The Division's three primary programs are: the state of government libraries, open access and public access, and the semantic Web in government.  Likewise, some of the co-sponsored programs include: a CE Course of Government Economic Indicators, a government mapping update, and a program on using government information to empower community activists.

Volunteers are needed to coordinate our programs and let the Conference attendees know that our Division is active and interested in having them participate in our Division.  We will need people in each program handing out flyers about the Divison and evaluation sheets for the session; people that can ensure the room is set up properly; people that can make sure our speakers have everything they need; and members that can introduce the program and let people know that the Government Information Division is active and seeking their involvement.
