Save the Date: An evening with Stephen Abram

Please join the Hudson Valley SLA in welcoming Stephen Abram to our event on April 25th, 2007 at David Chen's in Armonk, New York.  Stephen will be speaking on Trends in Special Libraries: The 2.0 World and Beyond Cost is $20 for SLA members (as well as members of MLA, ALA, SCIP, and ACRL!), $25 for non-members, and $15 for students, retirees, between jobs, and unemployed.

2007 Westchester Library Association Annual Conference!

The annual Westchester Library Association conference is coming up quickly, on Friday May, 11th from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Yonkers Riverfront Library. 

The keynote speaker at this year's conference is Leslie Burger, President of ALA and the director of the Princeton Public Library.  Other sessions will include "Library Visibility in Web 2.0" and "Black Belt Librarians: Every Librarian's Guide to a Safer Workplace."  The flyer with more information, including how to register, is here . SCIP: Tools of the Trade: CI and International Trade Information

On October 16th, the New York chapter of SCIP (Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals) are holding their October meeting at the Doubletree Suites Hotel in Times Square.  The subject is Tools of the Trade: Competitive Intelligence and International Trade Information, and the speaker is Joseph Mattera.  Mr. Mattera is currently in private practice, but has worked for the U.S. Customs Office and the U.S. Court of International Trade in his career.

Topic:  Tools of the Trade: CI and International Trade Information

Companies that engage in international trade provide the government with information about their shipments and business in general.  Knowing what the U.S. Government publishes about your competitors and about your company's international trade activities can enhance your CI activities. Joe Mattera, from International Trade Information Resources explains how to investigate companies that engage in international trade by using little known types of information and sources.

About the Speaker:  Joseph Mattera

For nearly twenty years Joseph Mattera has been a provider of research and information support services to the international trade community; primarily to customs law firms, importers, exporters, consultants, and others involved in international trade.  Before entering private practice, he worked for the U.S. Customs Service and the U.S. Court of International Trade.  Mr. Mattera has written articles and taught seminars on performing Customs legal research in many venues, including the World Trade Institute of Pace Brooklyn University and the U.S. Customs Service.  Joseph has a B.A. from College and a M.L.S. from Long Island University.

Save the Date: An Evening With the Authors of "Selected Letters of John Jay and Sarah Livingston Jay"

Please join the Hudson Valley SLA on September 11th, 2006, at Murphy's Restaurant in Yorktown, New York, for dinner and a presentation by the authors of "Selected Letters of John Jay and Sarah Livingston Jay."  Networking will take place at 5:30 p.m, with dinner at 6:15-6:30 p.m.  A forty-minute presentation by the speakers will conclude the evening.

Annual Meeting, May 8, 2006: "Doing More With Less, High Tech on a Shoestring"

The Hudson Valley chapter of the Special Libraries Association cordially invites all comers to their annual meeting, held May 8, 2006 at Crabtree's Kittle House in Chappaqua, New York. 

Speaking will be Jessamyn West, author, blogger, and technology librarian.  She'll be talking about how to utilize high tech tools without needing a matching budget, a subject Jessamyn is experienced with through her work with libraries in the rural Vermont area where she is based.  Cost is $35 for students, unemployed members and retirees, $45 for members of the Hudson Valley Chapter, and $50 for non-members, and the event is jointly sponsered by Swets Information Services , Factiva , and Ovid .
