The increase usage of mobile technologies and social media like Twitter probably created an increase in the usage of URL shorteners (those tools that permits to take a some-100 characters long URL and transform it in a link that is much more shorter and manageable).
There are pros and cons, as illustrated in these two posts, one on Mashable (pro) and the other on delicious creator joshua schachter's blog (con).
Well actually depend of your objectives, if you just like to write is ok doesn't matter but if you want page rank and publicity in google is not good at all, thanks

The problem that I have with it. It is that you don't know where it will take you and you can get in a place with adware or virus.
