Wikis

An iSchool's wiki

I just learned about this wiki this week.

The School of Information Studies at Syracuse University (fondly now called the iSchool) has a wiki "for students, faculty, and others interested in the Masters of Science in Library and Information Science program at the School of Information Studies at Syracuse Unversity."  Looking at some of the pages, this site answers questions that occur every year -- if not every semester -- and provides good resources that can be used for learning more about the MSLIS program.

As you look at the wiki, don't be surprised if you find information that you'll find useful, even though you have no attention of attending SU.

BTW Although there seem to be only a few current authors, I know that students have provided input, which means that they're getting wiki experience in school!  (Yeah!)

SLA Conference wiki

The Rocky Mountain Chapter has created a wiki for the annual conference.  Please visit it, bookmark it, and visit it again and again.  Undoubtedly more content will be added as the conference draws near.

Newsroom wikis

I posted a recap of that SLA session on the Information Technology blog.

What?! You didn't know the Information Techonology had a blog? Well yes, this new baby saw birth just before the annual conference. It's a great place to get the latest info about the Division and other topics that interest us. Happy reading!

Computers in Libraries Conference wiki

Will you be attending the Computers in Libraries Conference in March? Attendee Meredith Farkas, has created a (unofficial) wiki for the conference. Blogger attendees are invited to put their names on the list. Information Today will of course blog the event.

Authors now need to register in Wikipedia

Wikipedia sure made the headlines these past days. Journalist John Seigenthaler complained that his Wikipedia anonymous biography was false. The text claimed he was a suspect in the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and his brother, Robert Kennedy. Now, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales says users will now be required to register before they can create articles (NPR audio file).

Do you use Wikipedia? Do your users? Is a review by global, casual readers be as valid as a professional review by field experts?
