SLA Leadership Summit in January

The SLA Leadership Summit will be held in Reno, NV, January 24-27, 2007. I've attended this meeting for several years now and have found it to be an invigorating and energizing experience.  The speakers are usually top-notch, the leadership activities really get you thinking, and the networking can't be beat.  This is a small meeting, so it's easy to chat with anyone, including the SLA Board of Directors.

IT Division Programs in Denver

Stephanie Wical, IT Division Denver Program Planner, has done a terrific job in planning programs for the Denver conference.  The preliminary list of programs is now posted on the IT division website. More information will be coming soon on the blog and on the website.

Planning a conference is a huge task, and I congratulate Stephanie on all her hard work in what's shaping up to be a truly great conference.

4th International Book Conference - Boston, MA

For those who will be in the Northeast this month, the 4th International Book Conference will be happening Oct. 20-22 in Boston.  There is an entire section on libraries, with a rather wild and fascinating scope of topics:

From Athens to the Monastery: The Contentious Relationship between Scholarship and the Library and its Books by Dr. Margaret Zeegers

Theorizing Libraries: The Conquest of Abundance by Anna Gold

Academic Relationships and the Future of the Library: The University of Alabama and the IMLS Fellowship by Mei Mendez

And then...the techies show up

What do Librarians Do: Facets of a Profession by JoAnna Berry and me.

And if you are tired of the librarian track, you can veer off into pirates, and who doesn't love a pirate?

Cheap Thrills: Bluebeard in Victorian Chapbooks by Dr. Casie Hermansson.

Here's the main page for the conference site:
