This morning I ran across a blog called the 'Brary Web Diva. An entry about a new wiki, Wikimapia, caught my eye. It is an interactive map of the world, set up as a wiki so anyone can mark interesting places--her suggestion, of course, was to add libraries. Each new entry has to be voted on by two people before it is allowed to stay marked on the map. The idea has potential, although it is already showing the usual difficulties of open wikis: there is one entry in Lexington for "Evil McDonald's Parking Lot."
Funny, I didn't even have to look at this to know exactly which "Evil McDonald's Parking Lot" this identified! Who designed that thing, anyway? Seriously though, maps like these do have potential, especially in identifying libraries and other useful services for your clients.

I have not lived in Lexington for quite some time and I know this place too. It is rather amazing that tools such as the Map Wiki are becoming available and the potential does seem great and yet overwhelming in some ways. I'm not hiding yet though...

Remember all pistols do not behave alike and must be held according to their peculiarities.
