Marsha Barker is currently the Director of Professional Support Services for PTFS, Inc. (Progressive Technology Federal Systems, Inc.), located in Bethesda, Maryland.
Her primary job task is to find highly qualified individuals to staff federal, private, and government contracts (most in the library field, many in other information fields, including records management, knowledge management, intelligence analysis, etc.). Some of her other daily tasks consist of responding to e-mails and phone calls, researching requests for proposals and requests for quotes, responding to those, and addressing any contract staff issues needing her attention. She also assists with the recruitment of staff for other divisions of the company.
Marsha's first professional library job was as a Director of the Information Resource Center for a K-12 school in Granbury, Texas. She taught reference and other library skills, and read lots and lots of books aloud to elementary and middle school students! She attended library school at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, where she received a Master of Science in Library and Information Science. She has been a member of SLA for 3 years. Marsha has worked in and with libraries off and on since the 5th grade, but as a professional for more than 20 years.
And--she absolutely loves the work that she does and living in the DC metropolitan area.
Outside of work, Marsha loves to read fantasy, sci fi, mystery/adventure and young adult literature; watch movies (old and new) and HG TV; travel; and go to events in which her grandchildren participate.
Excellent!
