Hello on this soggy Friday!
This is a quick note about recent chapter activities... just incase you were wondering what some of your colleagues have been up to ....
1. Earlier this month our chapter coordinated its last Chat of the Fall semester with the iSchool SLA Student Group. The professional colleagues who "chatted" with students were from local medical & health care information services. Our thanks to them for participating in this well attended, dynamic chat!
- M.J. Tooey, Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs
Executive Director, Health Sciences and Human Services Library
University of Maryland, Baltimore - Janice Kelly, Executive Director
NN/LM SE/A Region
University of Maryland, Baltimore - Joyce Backus, Deputy Chief
Public Services Division
National Library Of Medicine
If you would like to participate in a Chat session next semester, please contact Judy Tapiero. judith@theorganizedlibrary.com.
2. If you know colleagues who would benefit from our Chapter's resources and network, and would add to it as well, please invite them to become a member! Our chapter is offering very nice cash rewards plus an opportunity to get a free year of membership for chapter members who participate in our Member-Get-A-Member Campaign. Additional information, our new Chapter brochure, and membership forms can be found at http://units.sla.org/chapter/cmd/getamember09.htm
3. Registration is now open for our December 8th Holiday Cheers program. Our speakers will be Janice Lachance, SLA CEO; Anne Caputo, SLA 2010 President; and Susan Fifer Canby, SLA 2009 Chapter Cabinet Chair. The Inn at Brookeville Farms is the venue and a hearty sideboard of delectable goodies awaits us. For details and to register go to http://units.sla.org/chapter/cmd/holiday09.htm (By the way, the URL in the snail mail flyer works. If you experienced problems, try it again!)
4. Monday, November 16 marks the opening of the e-vote for changing the name of SLA. You'll be getting instructions and additional information in your e-mailbox. If you want to get a head start, here's the link to the e-vote instructions and poll link. http://www.sla.org/content/SLA/governance/namechange/evote.cfm
If you have any questions about the name vote, the alignment research or the voting process, please do not hesitate to contact our chapter's Alignment Ambassadors, Sean Henry or myself.
5. Welcome new Executive Board members. Their terms begin January 1, 2010.
- Ashley Conaway, President-Elect
- Ed Metz, Treasurer
- Rene Stein, Director
- Tami Smith, Director
We could use some volunteers! Our chapter has become a dynamic network of colleagues spread from the Eastern Shore to the Western mountains of Maryland. Organizing programs and working together is easier when we have committee volunteers who live/work in different parts of the state. Please lend a hand and help our chapter with its activities. Contact me for additional information or touch base with Sean Henry, our new President as of January 1, 2010. shenry@frostburg.edu Over the next few weeks he'll be looking for volunteers to Chair and work on committees.
That's it for now. I'm looking forward to greeting you at our Holiday Cheers program! Register soon so you'll have a ticket. Seating is limited.
Have a great weekend!
Chris
