TITLE: Liaison and Outreach Librarian (Faculty Librarian)

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: The Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL), University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) seeks a knowledgeable, energetic, and creative liaison and outreach librarian to support the teaching and outreach missions of the Library.
This non-tenure track faculty position works with a team of faculty librarians within the Library’s Services Division to serve UMB’s Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and the Dental School.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serves as liaison and outreach librarian to faculty, students and staff in assigned disciplines, staying conversant with curricular and program development and research trends;
• Develops user-centered instructional programming for faculty, students and staff to support their academic and evidence-based clinical work;
• Designs workshops for the campus on research and information management tools such as PubMed, CINAHL and RefWorks;
• Delivers web-based instructional sessions and creates curriculum-aligned online guides for distance students;
• Applies expertise in informatics to innovative projects on campus;
• Advances faculty research through expert searching and specialized consultation services;
• Identifies faculty partnerships and collaborates on systematic reviews and grant-funded projects;
• Participates in collection development in assigned subject areas;
• Evaluates, selects, and organizes information to create high quality web resources;
• Participates in designing and assessing innovative programs and services;
• Collaborates with schools on community-based health information outreach projects;
• Participates in planning Library symposia and special events to promote trends in knowledge management, research, new technologies, etc.
This public service position participates in multidisciplinary Library teams, campus-wide projects and committees within UMB schools, such as curriculum committees. This faculty librarian is active in the field of librarianship and is expected to build a record of progressive scholarly and professional achievement. Some travel and occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: MLS from ALA-accredited school; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated excellent customer service skills and expert searching skills in health and social sciences-related databases; instruction experience; experience locating and evaluating web resources; ability to work independently and as part of a team; demonstrated knowledge of library technology and Microsoft applications; professionally active in librarianship.
Preferred: Public service experience in an academic or health sciences library; experience in a library liaison program; skills and experience delivering instructional services to a range of user communities, including the academic environment and clinical settings; experience in instructional design and course development; grant writing experience; knowledge of informatics; professionally active in medical librarianship.

The HS/HSL is the second largest medical school library on the East Coast, providing access to 372,221 bound volumes, 30,839 electronic and print periodicals, and 98 databases. Sixty-seven FTEs and 30 faculty librarians staff the library. Our attractive facility, which opened in 1998, provides over 900 seats, 45 group study rooms, 130 individual study-carrels, 50 public-access computers, wireless Internet access, 3 computer classrooms, and a satellite conferencing center. The newly opened Campus Center, which adjoins the Library, has a Recreation and Fitness Center, a swimming pool, and two cafes.
The Library supports the 6,300 students and 7,400 faculty and staff members on UMB's 61-acre research and technology complex of 62 buildings including the University of Maryland Medical Center.
