Position Summary

Works as a part of a team to support all Collection Development Department activities in collection development, collection management, and the provision of specialized assistance in the use of collections.
 
The scope of work includes: searching, identification and management of bibliographic, acquisitions, and other library and vendor records; participation in workflows of gift processing and pre-order processing; gathering and organizing data, lists and decisions to support ReCAP transfer, de-duping and collection assessment projects and replacement decision-making from brittle , damaged and missing books; maintenance of the Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies Reading Room; and general operational support for bibliographers, curators and subject selectors.
 
Works closely with and is supervised by the Assistant to the Associate University Librarian for Collection Development; also may be assigned work from six professional staff in the Department and by the AUL for Collection Development as needed. Occasionally provides general collection development support for the work of professional staff in Reference and Instructional Services Department, and specialized assistance as needed to other library departments (including Technical Services) requiring subject knowledge and language skills in Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies.
 
The incumbent in this position works closely with and provides specialized support to the Librarian for Slavic, Eastern European and Eurasian Studies, including managing acquisitions and collection maintenance functions for the Slavic, Eastern European and Eurasian Studies periodicals and the Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies Reading Room, and providing specialized assistance for users of those collections. Regularly addresses and independently resolves complex problems and is expected to assist the Librarian for the Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies Collections in establishing goals, policies and procedures. Demonstrates the knowledge necessary to carry out job responsibilities in an effective and timely manner and organizes tasks in an efficient manner.  

Essential Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Slavic Languages and Literatures.
2. Fluent reading knowledge and comprehension of Russian and Polish, as well as at least bibliographic competence in one of the Central Asian languages or Romanian or Czech.
3. Ability to provide specialized assistance to faculty and students.
4. Must be able to communicate effectively in English with a variety of Library staff in written and oral form, to be organized and detail-oriented, to work effectively in a team-based mode, anticipate workflow changes and adjust priorities accordingly.
5. Proficiency with searching OCLC (Connexion, WorldCat, First Search) and other major bibliographic databases. Familiarity with Voyager functions (Acquisitions and Cataloging modules), integrated discovery systems, and authority file functions.
6. Proficiency in use and analysis of data from spreadsheet software like Excel and word-processing software such as Microsoft Word. Ability to create complex Excel files per instructions from the supervisors. Ability to use standard email applications.
7. General internet navigational skills. Ability to move boxes of books (up to 30 pounds) from book trucks to shelves (and the reverse). This position requires frequent bending and reaching.
8. Basic HTML coding and editing skills and familiarity with LibGuides and CampusGuides platform.
9. Minimum two years library experience. Familiarity with local Princeton cataloging procedures is desired.
10. Other duties as assigned.  

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Advanced degree in Slavic Languages and Literatures.
2. Ability to use flatbed scanner, digital camera and microfilm scanner, and computer applications for image processing.
3. Ability to use and create finding aids using the established EAD and XML guidelines.
