Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Associate Dean for Technical and Automated Services provides leadership and administrative responsibility for Acquisitions, Cataloging, Serials, Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery, and Systems operations including digital initiatives. As a member of the Libraries’ senior administrative team, the incumbent participates in a wide range of administrative activities and works closely with the Associate Dean for Public and Administrative Services in budgeting, personnel, and other administrative areas. Supervises approximately 20 full and part-time library faculty and staff in a collaborative environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Acquisitions, Cataloging, Serials, Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery. Provide leadership and administrative support for ordering and receiving monographs, serials, and e-resources, initiating vendor payments, maintaining internal accounting data, in-house cataloging, processing government documents, and managing microforms and interlibrary loan/document delivery activities. Coordinate work flow with the Collection Development and Management unit. Participate in monitoring materials budgets and expenditures, maintaining liaison with vendors, and monitoring vendor performance.
Library Systems, Web, and Digital Projects. Supervise systems personnel in implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of software and hardware platforms in support of library functions including the Innovative Interfaces library management system, the ContentDM digital library, the ILLiad resource sharing system, and the EzProxy remote access server. Act as the backup systems administrator. Collaborate with library faculty and staff in the planning and implementation of digital initiatives and web applications. Maintain effective liaison with the Office of Information Technology and Resources and other campus units.
REQUIREMENTS:
In the above areas, the Associate Dean has responsibility for:
1. Quantitative and qualitative production and performance standards.
2. Statistical reporting for all Technical, Systems, and Interlibrary Loan/document delivery services.
3. Short and long-range planning and setting of priorities.
4. Recommending and implementing policy decisions.
5. Oversight for hiring, assigning, training, supervising, and evaluating support staff.
6. Monitoring budgets for personnel, materials, services, equipment, and supplies.
7. Maintaining effective communication.
8. Assisting the Dean in a variety of library-wide responsibilities as assigned.
9. Service on University and Library committees.
10. Participation in professional associations and activities.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Masters degree from an ALA accredited school of library/information science is required. A second post-baccalaureate degree is preferred. Significant supervisory experience and experience in library technical services and information technology. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a collegial environment.
