Job Description:
ASRC Management Services, a wholly owned Subsidiary of ASRC Federal, is seeking a Librarian IV to work in the US EPA Region 2 Library in New York City to work 32 hours per week; (no evenings or weekends required).
The Librarian is responsible for maintaining collections and providing reference services to a diverse patron base including EPA staff, contractors, and the general public. We are looking for a resourceful, energetic self-starter with a strong service orientation and attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responds to ready-reference and in-depth reference questions from EPA staff, contractors, and the general public
Responds to requests for information on environmental topics
Searches commercial electronic databases to locate information requested by patrons
Processes and fills requests for full text literature from internal and external resources (Interlibrary loan)
Maintains library collections and assists patrons in locating and obtaining materials
Instructs library users and assists in the use of reference sources to locate information
Assembles and arranges displays of books and other informational materials
Maintains circulation by checking in/out library materials to patrons; monitors the circulation database
Assists with updating and maintaining collections; makes recommendations for collection development decisions
Assists in user training efforts and in the development of documentation for new staff and USEPA employees
Provides current copies of Library brochures, informational handouts, and other flyers
Develops content and provides regular updates to the Library's Intranet Web pages
Supplies documentation of activities, including narrative reports and statistics, to the Supervisory Librarian
Works independently under overall project objectives and requirements
Performs copy cataloging in accordance with AACR2, LC subject headings/classification rules, and the SuDoc classification system
Ensures that all new materials are cataloged and shelved
Performs daily check-in of serials; tracks and files claims for missing issues when necessary
Shelves books, reports, documents, microfiche, and serials; periodically shelf-reads to ensure proper placement of materials
Maintains paper levels in copier and printers; ensures supply of toner
Ensures proper disposal or recycling of discarded materials
Daily maintenance of the general Library environment, including shelving materials, straightening chairs, and maintaining a neat appearance
Provides supervisory support in absence of Supervisory Librarian
Experience/Education:
REQUIREMENTS:
Masters in Library Science and one (1) year of reference experience
Experience in searching one or more major on-line commercial vendors and expertise in searching the Internet, as well as experience in searching OCLC for location holdings information at source libraries
Experience in Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Self-starter with a strong service orientation and attention to detail.
Experience with Internet, traditional and electronic resources is a must.
Interlibrary Loan, cataloging and serials management experience is desired.
Knowledge of environmental resources and HTML is a plus.
User training on the use of library resources and services.
