Position Description:
General Description:
Reporting to the Director of Education, Programming and Exhibitions:
Works closely with the research libraries and the network and site managers to develop innovative formal educational projects for teachers, librarians and K-12 community
Works with Network Managers and Sites and Services staff to develop goals in the areas of teaching, learning, and literacy and outreach which meet the needs and support the goals and strategies of NYPL
Oversees the literacy and community outreach activities of NYPL
Develop programs for patrons of all areas including Centers for Reading and Writing, disengaged youth (16-24), English as a Second language
Involved in literacy initiatives in the correctional system, homeless shelters, disability access and others
Eligibility Requirements:
Bachelors Degree required, and M.A. preferred
8 years experience in the field of developing education products as connected to collections, digital resources and exhibitions, and ability to create experiences for teachers and librarians both on-site and on-line
Minimum of 8 years experience working with large-scale organizations and translating collections and exhibition themes for a K-12 audience
Qualified candidate must be versed in "best practices" around literacy from toddlers to adults
Excellent managerial skills
Extensive experience creating on-site, on-line experiences for teachers and or school-based audiences
Excellent project management skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work well under pressure
Relationships with DOE a plus
