Job Category: Information TechnologyJob DescriptionThe Internet Information Scientist will assist to ensure the yellowbook.com product and its business processes have sound data resources and highest quality information. The Internet Information Scientist will contribute industry knowledge and experience in the analysis of standards and processes which Yellowbook uses to capture, manage and exploit the content that makes up its advertiser products. The Internet Information Scientist will be responsible for applying those standards and processes to the data sets required to support the Internet product.
Primary responsibilities include the following:
•Manage the day-to-day data requirements of Yellowbook’s Internet data and participate in the analysis of proposed changes & enhancements to Yellowbook’s Internet data and processes
•Participate in the creation and management of appropriate standards, controls and processes (e.g. data dictionaries and taxonomies, heading mappings, data imports, new products) which ensure that Yellowbook’s products and content capture initiatives adhere to a common set of principles
•Maintain the taxonomy and spelling structures required for supporting yellowbook.com
•Maintain the AdMaker tables, imports and data mappings required for supporting yellowbook.com
•Assist in collating content and the related requirements for collating content to ensure that consistent solutions are implemented; and ensure that advertiser content is available in the data sets being processed to support internet functions and objectives
•Analyze and test new products and features of yellowbook.com & test entire site functionality
•Respond to ad hoc inquiries and data requests from the Internet Strategy Team – coordinating the various tasks involved
•Keep up to date with new technologies related to content management and relevant industry standards
4 year degree in Library and Information Studies or Information Science with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience required.
Other requirements include the following:
•An appreciation of the importance of information management within a corporate environment
•Working experience of Microsoft Windows and the Internet
Experience of metadata software management desirable
•Experience in creating and applying the use of controlled vocabularies and taxonomies
•Ability to handle and analyze large data sets
•Experience of online information retrieval and practices
•Experience of liaising and coordinating with both technical & business functions
•Ability to handle multiple priorities
