Responsibilities:
Reports to the Director of Digital Library Programs to manage the acquisition, discovery, and promotion of library electronic resources and subscription based material.
- Oversees the timely procurement and payment of subscriptions and electronic acquisitions
- Manages day to day accounting of individual library serials budgets;
- Coordinates with the University General Counsel's Office and Chief Operating Officer's Office in the review of license agreements for electronic resources and serials.
- Collects and archives license documents for future library staff reference;
- Supervises cataloging staff for electronic monographic and serials materials and works proactively to maintain access to electronic and print continuations, serials, and standing orders;
- Develops accurate serials and monographic service records in federated search, openURL, and data services (i.e. managing SFX, Metalib, MARCIt, and other ex libris-based library software);
- Coordinates with library consortium members on the loading of New School electronic serial and monographic records into OCLC's WorldCat application ;
- Keeps library directors apprised of new developments in electronic resources and serials librarianship; Maintains knowledge of trends in acquisitions and library automation through participation in regional meetings and national listservs;
- Troubleshoots problems relating to electronic resource access and assists other librarians and staff with serials/electronic resource issues; works with systems/web manager in the development of web-based discovery tools;
- Manages e-resource trials and faculty/student feedback, analyzes usage statistics for action to be taken on subscriptions;
- Trains, supervises and evaluates paraprofessional staff working with serials and subscription based materials;
- Stays current with emerging library technologies for delivering library resources and services;
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
= MLS from ALA accredited library school
= Effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
= Evidence of skill in coordinating projects and attention to detail
= Familiarity with automated acquisitions, serials systems and OCLC
= Recent serials acquisitions experience in an academic library.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated competencies in managing or troubleshooting electronic resources
Recent supervisory experience in an academic library
Experience working in a dynamic, demand-driven environment
Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
Demonstrated ability to be flexible with working assignments
Evidence of research or creative achievement.
