Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: • Overall management of the library collections and the digitization operations by contributing to the formulation of policies, procedures, objectives and guidelines affecting the work in the area of access and preservation of the United Nations Dag Hammarskjold Library; • Determines priorities for actions, providing overall supervision to the Loan and Stacks Group and the Digitization Group, and performing administrative and other tasks as required; • Manages special projects,e.g., the oral history digitization project ensuring timely implementation of related actions towards the completion. This involves research and creation of a website backed by a database, as well as liaising with the selected vendor, various departments and external partners. • Contributes to the formulation of overall policies, procedures, objectives and guidelines affecting the development and maintenance of collection(s) and delivery of client services. • Analyzes the information needs of the Organization and its information clientele and makes recommendations concerning collection development, develops and produces printed and electronic products and ensures they are maintained. • Implements new technologies in information management to ensure library staff and other staff throughout the Organization have modern tools for efficient access to information. • Promotes and develops internal and external bibliographic and other databases as well as additional files to ensure consistency and accuracy. • Develops and coordinates tools to ensure adequate services and to maximize the utilization of collections. • Participates in the planning and organizing of training for headquarters and mission staff and visitors with respect to utilization of library services. • Guides, trains and supervises general service and professional staff in their functions. • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in library science, information science or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in library work, information administration or related area. Experience managing staff in a multicultural environment is desired. Experience with trends for collection management and preservation of physical and digital materials is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Other Skills
Familiarity with United Nations information resources is required. Familiarity with digitization standards and methods is desired.
