Part time, temporary, grant funded, contract positions (no benefits)
Reports to Supervising Librarian, Charles F. Cummings New Jersey Information Center at the Newark Public Library
Librarians will:
• provide reference services to customers in person, by phone, email, letter, etc. for local history information as well as current local information, emphasizing Newark, Essex County, and New Jersey
• use Clavis, the library’s catalog, various indices and finding aids, databases, and the internet to assist customers with their reference questions
• provide guidance to researchers working on complex or long-term projects using the materials available in the CFCNJIC
Contacts and provides referrals to other libraries, agencies and organizations for local information when necessary
• have responsibility for some aspect of collection processing or maintenance which may include organizing a collection of papers or archive, creating a finding aid, updating an index, re-housing materials, cataloging, or other project
The CFCNJIC has a variety of unique collections including historic city directories, maps and atlases, extensive collections of government documents, quasi documents, archives and collections of papers, as well as books and periodicals. Minimum hourly salary for librarians with an MLS will be $26.22. Candidates without an MLS will be considered for library associate positions at an hourly salary of $20.27. Some Saturday and evening hours required.
