THE SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION (SC&I) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, invites applications from individuals who are excellent instructors and aspiring scholars to teach in educational programs for 2010/11. Applicants should value a climate of cross departmental collaboration and interdisciplinary commitment to the development of discoveries and new ideas in response to local and global challenges. The school currently offers six degree granting programs of
study and is home to more than 50 faculty within its three academic departments—Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, and Library and Information Science.
THE SCHOOL INVITES APPLICATIONS from current or prospective doctoral students to serve as instructors for a new interdisciplinary undergraduate program in Digital Communication, Information, and Media (DCIM). The program prepares students for success as citizens, professionals, and members of multiple communities immersed in online discourse and interaction. Courses include an introduction to the theoretical concepts in the fields as well as competencies for strategic use and development of new media. The program will be offered in a hybrid format. Successful candidates should have proven accomplishments in teaching; experience with online teaching and learning; skill in the creation of electronic media; and be actively engaged in scholarship in the communication, information, or media fields. At least one position will be hired with administrative responsibilities and the appropriate reduced teaching load. The School may also consider applications for instructors for existing programs in communication, information technology and informatics, and journalism and media studies.
THE DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE INVITES APPLICATIONS for instructors with scholarly background in children's and young adult literature to teach in the Master's in Library and Information Science (MLIS) program. Courses to be covered include Materials for Children, Materials for Young Adults, and Children's and Youth Services (in Libraries). MLIS courses are offered both on campus in New Brunswick, NJ, and fully online in an asynchronous mode. Successful candidates should have proven accomplishments in teaching; experience with online teaching and learning; be actively engaged in scholarship in the information and youth literature fields, and should be prepared to teach both on campus and online.
One year appointments will be made as assistant instructor, instructor, or lecturer, depending upon the candidate's background. Appointments may be renewed for additional years.
SUBMISSIONS: Applications should include a cover letter, CV, and names of three references (letters do not need to be collected), and be submitted to http://comminfo.rutgers.edu/facultysearchntt no later
than April 9, 2010. Samples from a teaching portfolio may also be submitted.
The cover letter should specify which teaching program the candidate is applying for and address the candidate's fit with that program. Duties of successful candidates include teaching and service with clear progress in the doctoral
program each year.
