Major Duties:
Provides a variety of professional librarian and library research services for one or more specialized law libraries for the district United States Attorneys Office (USAO). Duties include: Develops and implements a distinct and comprehensive district-level library program which provides the information resources and services required by the USAO in its investigation of criminal and civil violations, and preparation and trial of cases; evaluates overall USAO information and research requirements to make changes in library space, collection, acquisitions, retention, and withdrawal of materials; provides reference and research services in support of litigation and legal policy issues to USAO legal staff on a wide range of questions which require use of general and specialized legal reference tools and sources within and outside the library; designs and executes complex, but effective and efficient, on-line searches of full text legal and non-legal databases including Juris, Westlaw, Lexis and Nexis; and locates and provides, through inter-library loan and other forms of exchange, information required by the USAO.
Basic Qualification:
As a basic requirement, applicants must have professional education in library science or possess equivalent experience and/or education as shown below in A or B:
A. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor’s degree.
Or
B. A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, applicants must show conclusively that the education, training and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
In addition to meeting the basic qualification requirements, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Examples of specialized experience includes: locating information for users, often of a specialized or technical nature, from a wide variety of published and unpublished sources and electronic data bases; managing a library providing the full range of services; making authoritative recommendations on collection development and source selection; instructing clientele in how best to make use of library resources; providing training to users; providing specialized information for attorneys; planning and executing the library budget; evaluating and acquiring computer hardware and software; evaluating vendor services in terms of cost-effective service; establishing library operating policies; making long-range plans for new and/or enhanced services and upgraded; making decisions regarding initiation or continuation of particular journal subscriptions and exercising accountability over the library’s collections; and/or providing comprehensive reference, research, advisory, evaluative and instructional services to individuals and groups.
Salary Range: 77,585.00 - 100,859.00 USD /year
