Posting Summary: Reporting to the Director, Library Services and Quality Improvement the Metadata Librarian will lead functions involving the planning and use of metadata to add discovery and evaluation of resources by Library users.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess
= an ALA accredited MSLIS or equivalent
= Broad demonstrated knowledge of metadata and its role in the library/educational communities
= Excellent written and oral communication skills
= Experience working in a collaborative environment, including working with people with diverse backgrounds
= Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in higher education & technology that impact libraries
= OCLC Connexion or similar cataloging interface experience
= Several years experience managing or using LCSH and LC classification
= At least one year's experience cataloging within an integrated library system or similar enterprise system with metadata responsibilities
Desirable qualifications are:
= Demonstrated excellent experience in:
- Project management
- Supervision
- MeSH and/or NLM classification
= Familiarity with RDA (Resource Description and Access) and/or other metadata standards and systems (Dublin Core, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Lead and advise the Libraries' efforts in planning, implementation, use, and assessment of metadata content used in new tools, technologies, and services.
- Co-ordinate traditional cataloging efforts and maintain best practices, following current national and international standards for cataloging practice and maintaining quick responses to local requests and needs.
- Manage the day-to-day functions of resource description and processing for the Libraries, including quality control of metadata, especially cataloging metadata
- Participate in the Libraries' managerial leadership to evaluate and coordinate functional activities.
- Participate in Service Quality improvement projects.
- Supervise paraprofessional and clerical staff.
- Other duties as assigned
