External Overview:
The Librarian II will implement NYPL’s digital literacy outreach and training activities for NYC Connected Communities. This is a temporary position for two years.
External Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Reference Services, the Librarian II:
Identifies NYPL sites for increased digital literacy training as well as appropriate sites for community-based outreach in low broadband adoption neighborhoods.
Establishes partnerships with appropriate local social service/city agencies and builds relationships with other NYC-CC partner agencies.
Identifies specific information needs and incentives for broadband use and adoption in designated low-income communities; involves local stakeholders in the design and implementation of a customized outreach plan for these areas.
Creates content for outreach and marketing materials that promotes broadband relevance and the access/support available at local NYPL sites.
Participates in community-based outreach and delivers public digital literacy training in NYPL sites in designated neighborhoods; coordinates efforts of program staff .
Participates in creation and delivery of digital literacy training for NYPL staff as well as community/city agency partners.
Documents the activities, effectiveness, and needs of the program through formal reports.
Supervises other program staff.
Strong commitment to public service.
Demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse patronage.
Performs related duties as required.
External Qualifications:
ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies
Successfully demonstrated experience in classroom instruction
Successfully demonstrated understanding of and commitment to information literacy in general and to technology and new media literacy in particular
Demonstrated ability to experiment with new instructional services and operate in a launch-and-learn environment
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with patrons and staff
Demonstrated ability to be an effective representative of the library to external groups
Demonstrated leadership and staff development skills
Demonstrated willingness to spend a substantial amount of time working with library staff and users in various library locations
Knowledge of New York metropolitan area preferred
