Reporting to the Associate Director for Information Services, the Reference and Emerging Technologies Librarian will provide reference and research support to Health Sciences Libraries’ clientele and be responsible for exploring, developing and implementing innovative uses of existing and new technologies to meet the information needs of the Temple University health sciences community. Responsibilities include the following: providing in-person and online reference service including individual consultations by appointment; identifying, implementing, and maintaining new technology applications to enhance the Libraries’ services and resources; working with existing library-based applications such as ILLiad, DOCLINE, and QuickDoc to maximize usability; developing web-based library instruction programs, tutorials, and webinars in coordination with other librarians; coordinating the development and maintenance of the Health Sciences Libraries website; collaborating with the IT departments of the University Libraries, School of Medicine, and TU Hospital; training library staff in innovative uses of software, web-based materials, and other virtual learning and discovery tools; and participating in the Libraries’ user education and liaison programs. In addition, the Reference and Emerging Technologies Librarian will support chat and other virtual reference services as needed; participate in collection development activities as required; and represent the Libraries on appropriate committees including library system and University-wide committees.
Required Education and Experience:
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Demonstrated ability to provide reference services in an academic or health sciences library setting.
*Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and issues in library technology.
*Working knowledge of the principles and practices of web design, web accessibility and usability issues. *Aptitude for teaching and developing user-oriented documentation, particularly web-based.
*Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred:
*Experience in an academic health sciences library.
*Familiarity with implementing new technologies in an academic or health sciences library setting. *Experience creating and maintaining web 2.0 social networking tools for information delivery.
*Demonstrated ability to manage projects.
