The Rutgers University Library for the Center for Law and Justice, in Newark, New Jersey, seeks an experienced, innovative, and service-oriented librarian to fill the position of Head of User Services, with responsibility for planning and overseeing provision of all user services, including circulation, inter-library loan, reserves, reference, bibliographic instruction, exhibits, and the faculty liaison service. This position supervises three librarians and six full-time support staff. The Head of User Services also participates in the provision of reference services (including some evening and weekend duty), formal and informal instruction, and the faculty liaison program; compiles user guides; and compiles and maintains procedural manuals. This is a tenure-track appointment and the Head of User Services is expected to demonstrate commitment to continual professional development through scholarly research relevant to areas of responsibility including publications, presentations, and participation and leadership in the work of relevant professional associations. Candidates should have: both an ALA accredited Master's degree in Library and Information Science and an ABA-accredited law degree; thorough working knowledge of United States legal publications; supervisory experience; experience in legal reference services; working knowledge of inter-library procedures; demonstrated ability to work with diverse students and colleagues; strong service orientation; awareness of national issues and trends in law librarianship; and the ability and desire to meet tenure and promotion requirements.
