Requirements: • Minimum of seven (7) years of increasingly responsible positions in development with significant experience in complex analytical prospect research and management required.
• Demonstrated mastery in the collection, analysis, interpretation and evaluation of information.
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in process analysis, and project management, as well as demonstrated ability to share these with others through mentoring and collaboration.
• Experience managing a staff and success within achieving a matrix reporting relationship.
• Record of initiative, problem solving and adaptability; strong analytical skills required, including expertise in modeling and analysis of data.
• Proven success as a creative thinker with the ability to articulate and implement programmatic visions.
• Superior communication skills, to express the importance and urgency of the mission of key internal and external constituencies in writing, on the phone and in personal meetings.
• Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
• Adhere to all legal privacy requirements and ethical standards upheld by regulatory bodies and professional organizations.
• Current knowledge of library science as well as commercially available research systems.
• Understanding and demonstrated competencies in the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) skills are highly desirable.
• Raiser's Edge database experience is highly desirable, as is the ability to use a variety of reporting and publishing tools and strong familiarity with relational databases.
• Bachelor's degree required.

Job Description: Reporting to the AVP, Development Operations, the Director of Prospect Research will lead the prospect research team. This position is responsible for research policy and procedures, and conducting and supervising relationship-based development research in order to support the Foundation’s fundraising goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating prospect leads, and will work closely with Major Gifts and Planned Giving programs and others engaged in seeking significant gift support on behalf of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
The Director will play a key role in the refinement and growth of the Foundation’s donor pool, and will have oversight of prospect screening and information management. This person will participate in prospect strategy meetings of the Major Gifts team. The Director will supervise three staff and the day-to-day operations of the prospect research program.
• Prospect Research: Leads the efforts to research and analyze new and existing donors and prospects for major gift cultivation and solicitation through review of and analysis of media, financial documents, files, databases, online information systems and other resources. Instructs and educates development staff in the methodology and resources of prospect research and management. Develops and implements policies, procedures, standards, templates, research request and tracking system, and rating formulas related to prospect research.
• Prospect Screening: Leads the implementation of prospect screening and data mining projects in order to maximize the impact of data/information. Manages and provides leadership for the evaluation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Center’s prospect management system; directs use of data modeling and screening results for all programs, including Major Gifts and Planned Giving.
• Information Management: Coordinates the development of concise and relevant prospect profiles summarizing key personal and financial information pertaining to these individuals. Assures accurate and timely records and reports are kept on all contacts and meetings with donors and prospects. Reviews activity reports to ensure appropriate prospect coding activity. Works closely with Development Services team on records management and tracking systems. Manages tools necessary to maintain and monitor an informative prospect pipeline that relates directly to the goals of the development team; provides relevant information and analysis to the Major Gifts team. Establishes guidelines and policies for the accurate and ethical management of all donor and prospect information.
• Prospect Assignment: Works closely with the Executive Director of Development for Clinical Support to assist in assigning prospects to gift officer portfolios and monitors related qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities. Participates in prospect strategy meetings of the Major Gifts and Planned Giving team.
• Supervision: Hires, trains, and supervises research staff, and develops appropriate research policies, procedures and standards.
