You will serve as general circulation librarian in the Access Services Division of the USMA Library being the primary focal point for responding to general information /directional queries. You will train library users in the use of the online integrated catalog, library databases and library resources. Monitor the daily activities of Circulation Desk library technicians. Give necessary guidance and training in accordance with individual abilities. Interpret interlibrary loan and circulation policies to users based on library policy. Suggest procedures for improving the delivery of services provided by tracking trends in the volume of requests received and analyzing the workflow. Maintain quality control on all circulation files. Assist Information Gateway Division (IGD) in providing reference services. Provide library orientation and instruction for cadets, faculty, and staff. Assist with special projects relating to reference and circulation.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
General Schedule
BASIC REQUIREMENT: All librarians must meet the basic requirements for professional education in library science or possess equivalent experience and education as specified in paragraphs A or B: A. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelors degree OR B. A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. You must have a Master's degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science.
In addition to the BASIC REQUIREMENT for the GS-09, applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level or equivalent in the Federal Service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: is defined as having: 1. Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and objectives of librarianship in order to respond to general information queries; and refer users to appropriate area in the library. 2. Knowledge of on-line research databases (EBSCO, OLC, NEXIS, etc.) and On-Line Catalog, OCLC Interlibrary Loan (ILL) sub-system (including ILLiad and Rapid), and experience with on-line public access catalogs (Millennium). 3. Knowledge of the Library of Congress classification scheme and subject headings, the American Library Association (ALA) and the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2) regarding forms of entry.

May be required to work irregular hours to include nights and weekends.
