Serve as the key interface between project sponsors and any project with a technology component. Define and maintain the standards of project management. Execute a program to manage, monitor and report on initiatives. Implement a consistent project management methodology to insure quality and delivery standards. Maintain excellent communication with senior management within IT and across the organization (NYPL). Manage a small group of project managers.
Lead the team in a mature and organization-focused manner, providing help where necessary to project a professional image
Define, introduce, and communicate a standard project management methodology and best practice. Initiates and implements new methodologies, process and procedures that will support NYPL’s short and long-term goals.
Insure project execution through economies of repetitive process and good business practice. Insure that all projects are proceeding according to timelines, meeting targets and expectaions, and adhering to established operating parameters. Negotiates changes in resources as necessary to achieve successful project delivery.
Identify, secure, and coordinate implementation of internal and external resources and expertise as appropriate to achieve project objectives
Assigns project to staff and monitors progress
Collaborate with functional areas in the supervision of project personnel, including work allocation, training, and problem resolution.
Define and provide the appropriate level of documentation and metrics for projects. Advises leadership and/or executives about project portfolio, status, and resource planning
Manage the portfolio of projects and provide reporting / metrics
Coach and mentor team members to achieve deliverables
Assess resource loads and make appropriate individual assignments
Drive organizational effectiveness and accountability
Serve as key liaison between the functional groups within IT and other NYPL business units
Facilitate planning, prioritization, and collaboration between NYPL groups
Career development, performance management and compensation determination for staff
Proven communication skills; both written and oral, with technical and non-technical staff, at all levels of management

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s a plus
5+ years experience as a PMO Director
Experience managing infrastructure, software development, and enterprise systems implementation projects
Project budgeting skills
Experience working in IT
PMI certification a plus
