Job Description
Art and Architecture Librarians provide high-quality public services in subject areas related to the Libraries’ art and architecture collection. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: collection development in art, architecture and design; instruction, committee and task force work within and outside of the Libraries; and such other activities as are deemed necessary for the smooth provision of information services. Some evening hours are required. This is a 12-month per year, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank.
POSITION DUTIES
-Provide reference services and library instruction.
-Assume responsibility for liaison work, including collection development, with programs in the School of Architecture and the School of Art and Design.
-Participate in the planning, design and provision of library instruction, reference and public services, including the creation of library guides and online tutorials.
-Provide individual and group library instruction and assist with incorporating informational resources into the curricula.
-Along with other faculty, develop and maintain appropriate departmental contacts.
-Identify appropriate print and electronic resources to be added to the collection.
-Oversee special and ongoing projects related to the maintenance and integrity of the art and architecture collections.
Work along with the public services staff to train clerical staff, student employees and graduate assistants.
-Contribute to the Libraries’ public relations and outreach efforts.
-Participate in grant writing and seeking outside funding sources for the Libraries.
-Serve on Institute committees and participate in library-wide planning and governance in a shared decision-making environment.
-Perform all other related duties as assigned.
SALARY: Low $50's with excellent benefits.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution required. A graduate degree or graduate-level background in art, design and/or architecture (preferably architecture) is desirable.
Experience:
Demonstrated experience in providing library public services and library-related instruction is required. Experience with, online systems is also essential. At least two years’ employment as a librarian preferred in an academic library is desirable.
Skills:
-Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff, students, and faculty is required.
-Demonstrated ability to manage projects and work independently or as part of a team is also essential.
