The Board of Trustees of the Larchmont Public Library is seeking an experienced, dynamic leader with proven management skills to be the next Library Director.
 
Job Description
 
The Director works closely with a 7-member Board of Trustees, manages a $2.1 million annual operating budget and a staff of 28 employees, oversees a collection of 110,000 items, care-takes a landmark building, and collaborates with an enthusiastic Friends of the Library auxiliary group.
 
LPL is a municipal library funded by both the Village of Larchmont and Town of Mamaroneck, serving a combined population of 18,000 residents. Located in Westchester County, 20 miles from New York City, LPL is one of 38 libraries in the Westchester Library System. Known for its knowledgeable staff and creative programming, the library recently completed a major renovation of its Children's Room. LPL serves an educated community and has one of the highest circulation rates in the county.
 
Required Experience
 
Top candidates must have experience in budget development, strategic planning, and management of building projects. Candidates should also have a track record of working with unions, implementing new technologies, and securing grants and other funding sources. Essential attributes include positive leadership style with strong communication skills; exceptional follow-through and attention to detail on projects; the ability to work collaboratively with Board, staff, elected officials and community groups; and a vision for providing excellent library services in a rapidly evolving landscape.
 
This Library Director II position requires a Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution, a NYS Public Librarian's Professional Certificate and at least 4 years of professional-level experience, including 1 year in a supervisory role. This is a civil service title and the candidate selected will be subject to an open, competitive, training and experience evaluation exam at a later date, in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law. Compensation
 
Starting salary range $85,000-$95,000, with a competitive benefits package.
