Description:
Responsible for the customer sales consultation and sales of all products and services handled and distributed by Baker & Taylor for the public library and miscellaneous markets in a defined geographic territory.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for achieving sales volume levels while maintaining profitability goals from new and existing accounts that meet or exceed territorial quotas established by sales management.
• Responsible for providing customers with consultation involving all aspects of library-vendor workflow including collection development, technical services, and acquisitions.
• Recommend B&T products and services as solutions based upon analysis of library needs.
• Responsible for maintaining ongoing relationships with key decision makers within libraries including: adult services, juvenile services, audio visual services, technical services, collection development, library administration and related purchasing units of the town, city, county and/or state.
• Responsible for interacting directly with various internal B&T departments to ensure customer satisfaction, consultant goals and as needed, vendors providing library automation service to libraries.
• Provides management with ongoing customer reporting including daily/weekly e-mail call reports and phone calls.
• Provide ongoing reporting of competitive information and territorial strategy to sales management.
• Completes required territorial reporting on a weekly basis.
• Participates and attends tradeshows, conventions, seminars, and training sessions, held at various intervals including weekends, as directed by sales management.
• Responsible for proficiency on all Baker & Taylor electronic ordering and collection development applications and interfaces.
• Maintains a supply of B&T product literature and materials to support filed sales/consulting activities.
•
Significant travel from home office for customer visitation on a weekly basis, including approximately 50% overnight travel. Conventions, workshops, seminars may included weekend overnight travel on an occasional basis.
Requirements:
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency in Excel, Access, Outlook and MS Word.
• Basic knowledge of Integrated Library Systems and interface options within Baker & Taylor for ordering.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and selling skills.
• Proficiency in communicating at an advanced level in the area of collection Development and library materials selection.
• Working knowledge of cataloging practices and MARC record data.
• Full understanding of library materials processing and related work flows within public libraries.
