Rocky Mountain Chapter SLA Blog

This is the blog for the RMSLA Chapter covering events, stories and more.

Leadership Summit 2008

The SLA Leadership Summit in Louisville, Kentucky was very exciting and stimulating. The Kentucky Chapter hosted a great meeting.

On Thursday evening they hosted a reception at the Louisville Slugger Museum. If you were brave enough, you could even step into the batting cage and try your hand at batting. I personally passed on that!

Three members of the RMSLA Chapter attended the event, Ty Webb as one of the new Directors on the SLA Board, Scott Brown as the Competitive Intelligence Division President and myself as the President of our chapter. In the coming weeks I hope to share many of the things I learned including all of the resources available to us as part of our membership. Our membership is a valuable asset to our own organizations as well as personally! Suffice to say, I came away energized and enthusiastic about the year ahead.

Hopefully you will have the opportunity to participate in one of the February Dinearounds. Scott, and I plan  to share highlights of the Leadership Summit. We plan to offer a virtual dinearound again for those members who cannot make one of the regional dinearounds.

One of my goals is to keep in touch with chapter members and I think our chapter blog is a great tool. Keep in mind that I'm a novice. Hopefully you will see frequent postings from me and as Karl Fisch said at the Shirley Alldredge Lecture - let's enter into the conversation.

RMSLA Celebrates 55th Anniversary

Six of RMSLA’s Past-Presidents join hands to cut the cake.  From left to right, Char Moss 1997, Barbara Wagner 1986, Nancy Greer 1977, JoAn Segal 1981 & 1995, Marcy Rodney 2003, and Kurt Keeley 1980.

The anniversary celebration was hosted by Monnie Nilsson and Vickie Makings of the Denver Post.  Approximately forty members gathered November 6th  on the top floor of the Denver News Building, where they enjoyed panoramic views of the capitol, the public library, the Art Museum with its new Libeskind addition, and all of Denver, spreading West to the Rockies.

Following a catered dinner, current RMSLA President-Elect, Scott Brown, presented fun facts about 1951, the year the chapter was founded.  Linda Boureois, Chapter Archivist, displayed artifacts reflecting the chapter’s history.  Six past-presidents were present, and each shared a few memories of the chapter during their time as a leader.  Current President, Ty Webb, offered a toast, recognizing some of the achievements and contributions of the chapter over 55 years, and wishing it continued success for the next 55 years.

RMSLA Logo

Did you notice the graphic we're using on the RMSLA blog?  It's the new logo for the chapter!  Designed by SLA's graphic artist, Nathan Yungkans, we think it incorporates SLA's colors and "swoosh" very effectively into a graphic representation of our beautiful mountains.  The curved lines link us with our parent organization while also representing the mountain winds.  The purple of SLA is perfect for our purple mountains majesty.  The lines give movement to the design, reflecting the dynamic personality of our chapter.  We will use the logo in chapter communications and in our promotional material for SLA's 2007 Conference to be held here in Denver!
