John Lowery/SL Roderick Lorefield called a meeting this afternoon to discuss the possible uses of Click-U in Second LIfe. Approximately 12 avatars attended the lively meeting, at the SLA firepit. Discussions included the types of programs that might be viable in Second Life and could make use SL's interactive capabilities. Several avatars mentioned the need to make the timing and focus of the potential Click-U sessions more international in scope. The possibility of partnering with other library groups already doing programs within Second LIfe was mentiioned so that SLA "didn't need to reinvent the wheel." There seemed to be general agreement that this first meeting was more a brainstorming session. More specific ideas and plans could be developed from this session later, including the development of an In-world Click-U classroom. (More comprehensive notes from the meeting will be available within the next few weeks.)
Roderick also mentioned that the Board had approved the creation of the Virtual Worlds Advisory Council and "the Committe on Governance has drafted a charge that the Board will approve" tomorrow. Then President Zamora will make the Council appointments. John/Roderick will be the staff liaison on the Council.
