Like its real life counterparts, the Community Virtual LIbrary (CVL) in Second LIfe faced some hard decisions this past Autumn when Linden Labs suddenly announced the end of its reduced rates for non-profit organizations. The backlash to Linden Labs sudden decision to raise its rates was immediate.
A compromise was hammered out when Linden Labs agreed to let current owners continue renting at the current levels for up to twentyfour months IF, the amounts were paid in full by January 1, 2011. The advisory council for the Community Virtual Library decided to try to raise the necessary $7,000 plus during a series of FUNdraisers throughout the month of November to retain Information Island and Imagination Island. Information Island International would have to go.
