The Winter Solstice is a time of renewal, when the world is dark but light returns. This year's Solstice arrives on the heels of a powerful Full Moon and complete lunar eclipse, and marks the ending of a tumultuous year. "Little Gidding," the last of T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets, was begun during the Battle of Britain and published in 1942, another intense time in history. Tonight, Aoife reads Little Gidding as an offering to the season, and a reflection on the turning of the year. Aoife will be in voice.

Just in case you need a few moments away from the rush of Holiday preparations, pull up a comfortable chair and a warm beverage (or listen while you decorate the tree or wrap gifts) and join Caledonia as she reads an adapted translation of E.T.A. Hoffmann's original very looong short story "The Mouse King". You will know it better as "The Nutcracker". The Story will be read in Voice . . . and part of the "adaptation" is that it is not NEARLY as long as the original!

Ghost stories have been associated with Christmas for hundreds of years. The winter prospect of long dark nights, howling winds, low-lying mist and snowed-up roads all contributed to the appropriate setting for the recital of supernatural tales around the Christmas fireside.

We’ve long been fascinated with ancient peoples. Add in exotic locales, the promise of fame, and wealth, and the result is an irresistible lure for many historians, scientists, and treasure hunters. We are honored this month with the talented Mr. Linus Lacombe who will guide us through the development of archaeology and how it has increased our understanding of past civilizations. Bring your friends and your mummies.
Pack your bags, load up your camel, and join us on December 19 at 2pm slt.
