On March 27, 2008 at the College of Physicians, David Bates, MD, will give a talk on Health Information Technology in the 21st Century: Where Are We and What's Next?
According to Dr. Bates, there are two developments that are likely to fundamentally change the practice of medicine in the next century. One is genomics, and the second is health information technology (HIT). Health information technology is likely to become ubiquitous in care delivery in the near future. While it has great promise, it hasn't always delivered. Dr. Bates will discuss the current state of HIT, what the next frontiers are, and what an HIT-enabled practice of medicine might be like. The talk is free but there is College-Sponsored Cocktail Buffet that is $35 for the general public. Bates is Chief, Division of General Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital; Medical Director, Clinical and Quality Analysis, Partner's Healthcare Systems; Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School; and Professor of Health Policy and Management, Harvard School of Public Health.
