Kim Rotter takes registration at the SLA Philadelphia Chapter meeting Wednesday, March 26 at QVC in West Chester. The meeting included an intriguing tour of the QVC studios.
At the meeting, Chapter President Rod MacNeil presented Penny Young, long
-time member and Board officer, with the Chapter's Special Achievement Award for Distinguished Service. The award honors a Chapter member for outstanding professional achievement or distinguished service in the field of special librarianship. With the award, the Chapter ordered a sweetbay magnolia for her new home in Cincinnati.
The QVC Information Services Staff presented an inspiring overview of "Sorting Things Out At QVC: Taxonomy and Metadata Development." The in-house taxonomy system they developed greatly increased sales and provided improved sales analysis.
Before the meeting, members of the Central Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Chapters of SLA met to discuss the potential for merging the two chapters. Several of the CPC members stayed on for the presentation and dinner.
