Greetings fellow SLA Iowa Chapter members,
We are well over half way through the first quarter of 2011. I hope you all have a good and prosperous year ahead.
The SLA Iowa Officers held a phone conference meeting on February 8, 2011.
Highlights of the meeting are as follows:
- Jamie Hosek has agree to take over the position of Chapter Blogger and Discussion List Administrator. On behalf of the chapter, thank you Jamie.
- We have decided to reduce our chapter meetings from two per year to one per year. We will have our one meeting this fall in Iowa City, sometime following the beginning of the academic year for the Library School. Watch for the announcement concerning this meeting at a later date.
- Seeing that we won’t have our Spring meeting in Des Moines this year, I am planning a social for all the members in the Des Moines/Ames corridor some time in late Spring, probably May. I see this as an opportunity for members to invite potential candidates for membership. Dana Smith and I will be inviting potential members that we aware of that reside in the Des Moines/Ames area. If you are aware of any persons whom we could invite please contact Dana or me. (See our contact info in the SLA membership directory.: http://www.sla.org/cvcfm/MembershipDir.cfm .)
SLA National Convention will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on June 12-15, 2011; early registration discount has begun and will end on April 8, 2011.
Keynote speakers will be James Kane (Consultant on building loyalty), and Thomas Friedman, author of Hot, Flat, and Crowded. http://www.sla.org/content/Events/conference/ac2011/index.cfm
Jamie and I cleaned up the Iowa Chapter discussion list. If you know someone who wants to join the list, share this link with them : http://units.sla.org/chapter/cio/SLACIODiscList.htm
Your SLA Iowa Chapter President for 2011,
Brian Herman
