Minutes

From our meeting last Tuesday, 5/26:

Due to renovations at the SIS building our May meeting was held at Hemingway's Cafe on Forbes Ave.  As this was our first meeting of the summer semester we held elections for officers.  Our new president is Anthony  and our new vice president is Jamie.  Broede, Michelle and Coral will be continuing as our Secretary, Webmaster, and Member Coordinator respectively. Elections will be held again at the beginning next semester.

After elections we discussed the Reverse Mentoring event that took place last thursday.  Six of our members went to teach SLA members in the pittsburgh area about Blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Wikis, Google Docs, and the Kindle.  Hopefully we can hold another event soon to continue technology education.

Events this summer are going to be sparse.  We understand that people are very busy and planning meetings will be difficult.  However, this is SLAPSG's 30 year anniversary and we would like to celebrate. We are having a potluck picinic on June 20th from 11-? When we get more information about the location we will let you know.  If you would like more information or to RSVP please contact Jamie at somcak@gmail.com. Please let her know what you can bring to serve so we can make sure that everything is covered. It should be a good time and a nice break in the middle of the semester. We hope that everyone can make it.

Information will be posted on the blog throughout the semester, but at this time another meeting is not scheduled. If you have information or would like a meeting contact Anthony or Jamie to set one up.  Have a great summer everyone.

Cemetary Tour Recap/ Next Meeting 4.8.09

I wanted to say a huge thank you to those who attended the Cemetery Talk and Walk tour on Friday March 20th. We had a great turn out; apparently a lot of people are interested in cemeteries and archives. The presentation by Debbie Day was excellent and her show and tell of all the records involved in her genealogical research was fascinating. After her presentation we travelled to the Homewood Cemetery and spoke with their archivist, Marilyn Evert.  She discussed the amount of records kept for each person and plot.  We also were shown the process of locating a plot on a map to see the complexity and size of the cemetery itself.  Broede also showed the group her ongoing project of cleaning and cataloguing mausoleum blueprints.  Visitors were able to see the decisions made and the continuing process of working with budget constraints. I would like to thank all that attended and I hope that this window into a more corporate archive was an interesting experience. For those who missed it and would like more information, please see Debbie Day's website www.beallsvillecemetery.org or contact Broede for information on Homewood Cemetery. Thanks again, hope everyone is having a good semester and we will see you at our next meeting on April 8th at 5 pm.
