Oct. 8: The Year in Web Searching

The Year in Web Searching:  News, Updates, and Changes at Google, Yahoo!, Live and More

Every year, the search engines introduce new products, redesign their interfaces, change ranking algorithms, and add or remove search features.  Some can significantly change search strategies and the type of results found.  Keeping up with all the changes is a daily task.  This seminar wades through all the news, new products, and changes and then highlights the most significant changes at each engine that effects search.

This program is presented by Greg Notess, Professor and Reference Team Leader, Montana State University and author of SearchEngineShowdown.com.  The program will air live, beginning at 1:00 p.m.  The meeting rooms will be open from 12:00 - 3:00 to allow time for lunch and discussion.  Sodas, water and cookies provided by the chapter.  Come early and bring your lunch!

May 12 : Information Ethics

Did you know... SLA does not have an ethics code?  SLA members are currently referred to the ethics codes of the ALA and other professional information organizations.  The SLA ethics code is a work in progress, and we have been asked to provide our input.

Katrina Stierholz is our Ethics Ambassador and she'll give us more information about her role- and ours- in this information gathering session.  Our special guest is Pam Klipsch, Director of the Jefferson County Library.  Ms. Klipsch has experience in the area of intellectual freedom and ethics-related issues.

What are our organizations' ethics?  What values drive these ethics?  Katrina and Pam will help us identify key information ethics issues that we feel should be addressed by SLA.

Please thank our generous sponsor:  Proquest

This is a free program and ProQuest is donating a $50 American Express gift card!  We'll have a drawing for the gift card at the end of our ethics discussion.  You must be present to win- so please join us to share your values and point of view!
