Save the Date for "The Librarian's Toolbox"

On Friday, 25 September plan to join Upstate New York SLA for “The Librarians’ Toolbox: Enhance your Connectivity, Productivity and Presence.” 

  • Blake Carver, Librarian at the New York Power Authority and founder of LISHost and LISNews, will be our featured speaker.
  • Christian Miller of Cornell and Linda Galloway of SUNY ESF will talk about knowledge sharing through LibGuides.
  • Elena MacGurn, Research & Outreach Specialist of Cornell, will discuss marketing and publicity topics.

The event will be held at the Craftsman Inn, in Syracuse, NY. Registration materials will be available online soon.

Nominations for UNYSLA Executive Board (Deadline 12 August)

The Upstate NY Chapter of SLA is seeking candidates for the UNYSLA Executive Board. Candidates, once elected, will assume office on January 1, 2010. 


Positions Available:

  • President-Elect (1-year term; 3-year commitment - The President-elect position will serve on the Executive Board for three years.  Year one is President-elect, then s/he assumes the position of President in year two, and in year three becomes Past President.)
  • Secretary (1-year term)
  • Director, Membership & Recruitment (2-year term)


How to nominate someone:

Please contact Mary Beth Bobish, Chair of the Nominating Committee, by August 12th, if you would like to nominate someone. Self-nominations are welcome!

Candidates must be members of SLA and the Chapter.

Call for Nominations: UNYSLA Chapter Member Awards

There’s still time to nominate a deserving student or chapter member for the 2009 UNYSLA Student and Chapter Merit Awards.

The Upstate New York Chapter Member Merit Award was created to recognize individuals for outstanding achievement and service to SLA and the Chapter and honor chapter members with a record of distinguished service in the organization and the association. Nominees must be a current member in good standing the in the association currently OR hold membership for at least two consecutive years prior to the award date.

The purpose of the UNYSLA Student Merit Award is to recognize and reward the active participation of student SLA members through involvement and leadership in Student Group activities. Nominees must be a SLA student member enrolled in a masters or PhD level library or information studies program and must show evidence of at least one of the following activities as a member of SLA: increasing SLA student involvement and memberships, expanding professional development opportunities both formal and informal, raising or expanding the profile of the SLA Student Group within their own school, on campus; or within the professional community, or bringing educators and practicing special librarians together. Any chapter member may nominate a student for the Merit Award.
