Job Description - Extended Hours Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY:
The University at Albany Libraries seek a dynamic, creative, customer service and detail-oriented professional to coordinate and manage the University Library access services (Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Reserves, and Document Delivery) during late hours of operation, Sunday through Thursday. The successful candidate will resolve user problems related to access services in person, via phone, or in writing through accurate and consistent interpretation of policy and community relations which bear on the University mission; assist in maintaining Web pages and other electronic documents on the staff intranet, department Wiki, and public site; liaise with the University Police Department and other units in response to security issues affecting library service points; collect and prepare statistics; assist with supervising and training clerical and student staff; evaluate effectiveness of current practices and make recommendations for future services and technologies; communicate trends and usage of library services during evening/weekend hours with other library departments; communicate with student and faculty groups about the availability of extended hours and services; coordinate support from other campus agencies to ensure an environment conducive to study and research during evening and weekend hours; and provide efficient service to the University community in obtaining research materials not owned by the University Libraries.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Availability to work evening/weekend schedule (Sunday through Thursday 7:15pm - 3:15am) when classes are in session; flexibility to work overnight during final exams and earlier schedule when classes are in recess
- Demonstrated computer skills for a highly automated workplace
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Demonstrated effective problem resolution skills in a customer service environment
- Work experience in a library or academic setting
Preferred:
- Work experience in an academic library setting
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with library resources
- Experience working with an Integrated Library System, an Interlibrary Loan System, and/or an Electronic Reserves System
