Job Description - Dean, Library & Information Services

POSITION SUMMARY:
The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Plattsburgh invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of Library and Information Services (LIS). The College is seeking a highly motivated, innovative leader who will work collaboratively with the college community in shaping and delivering library and information services in a rapidly changing environment. The position will begin July 1, 2012. The position reports to the Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs and serves as a member of the President’s Executive Council and the Deans’ Council.

The Library & Information Services Division is responsible for creating and delivering services and programs to support the academic and administrative needs of the college’s 6000 undergraduates, 600 graduate students and 800 faculty and staff at Plattsburgh’s main campus, as well as its branch campus in Queensbury, New York and its extension site at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York. The Division has 56 full-time staff supporting the core operation of the division that includes Feinberg Library, instructional technology, computer and media services, computer information systems, online learning and network operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA accredited university or a terminal degree in an appropriate discipline; a minimum of 10 years of related work experience with five years of progressively responsible managerial experience in higher education; an outstanding record of leadership in an academic setting; detailed knowledge and experience of library and information services issues, trends, and operations; a demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans; a demonstrated commitment to customer service; experience in building and sustaining collaborative relationships; excellent communication and analytic skills; a strong record of scholarly engagement and professional activity.

SUNY Oswego - First-Year Experience/Evening Librarian

Job Description - First-Year Experience/Evening Librarian

POSITION SUMMARY:
Penfield Library of the State University of New York at Oswego seeks an innovative, proactive, service-oriented librarian to fill an exciting new position of First-Year Experience/Evening Librarian.

The person in this position will serve as Penfield Library's liaison to SUNY Oswego's special courses and programs for first-year students, and lead library participation in college recruitment and orientation events. Responsibilities include collaboration with the faculty and staff leading first-year programs; service on the instruction team; and design, promotion, implementation and assessment of instruction and outreach programs for first-year students. This new position includes working with freshman across many disciplines in programs such as our FirstChoice programs and Living/Learning Communities, and with high school students visiting the Library and campus admissions events.  In addition this librarian will participate in the reference service rotation, including virtual reference, and will be responsible for collection development and instruction for assigned subject liaison areas.

This is a 12-month, tenure-track position with faculty status at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian.  It is an evening position with regular hours from 12:30 to 9 p.m., and rotating weekend shifts.  The position reports to the Coordinator of Instruction and also works closely with the Library's Reference and Collection Development Coordinators.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
An MLS from an ALA-accredited institution; experience working in an academic library; teaching experience in a classroom setting;  experience working with first-year college students or programs;  ability to use current reference and teaching technologies, and to adapt quickly in a rapidly changing technological environment; working knowledge of multidisciplinary research resources, including electronic databases; excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; strong customer service orientation; experience working with multicultural populations; and availability to work from 12:30 to 9PM Monday-Thursday (Friday daytime hours).

Preferred:
Experience in providing library reference service, including chat reference; experience with library collection development; experience in managing multiple responsibilities; project leadership experience.
