More IT members honored with Association awards

We are proud to count the following honorees among the IT Division members. Congratulations on these richly deserved awards:

Honors for IT members

The IT Division is proud to be home to members who have recently received SLA honors:

At the Leadership Summit, four members have received the following association awards:

• James Manasco (immediate past Past-Chair), Dee Magnoni (past Chair) and Libby Trudell (present Public Relations Chair) became SLA Fellows
• Libby Trudell also received a special President Citation for her work on the  Public Relations Advisory Council in regards to the Alignement Ambassadors program
• Amy Buckland (present Chair of the Communications and Social Media Section) received one of the five Rising Stars Award

Other association awards have since been announced:

• David Shumaker received the Rose Vormelker Award
• Barbie Keiser received the Dow Jones Leadership Award 
   

And now, three IT members are on the SLA 2011 Board of Directors slate!

• Richard Huffine for Division Cabinet Chair-Elect
• Jill Hurst-Wahl (present IT Professional Development Chair) for Director
• James Manasco (immediate past Past-President) for Chapter Cabinet Chair-Elect

Alignment Portal Share Forum now active

If you are interested in knowing more about the Alignment Project, especially now as we are asked to vote on the Association's new name, please visit the Alignment Portal, now in operation.

The portal allows the sharing of thoughts and feedback in one central location, on all parts of the Alignment Project.

Registration is necessary in order to comment.

As for the vote, please remember that the vote on the proposed new name ends December 9th, 2009.

Making volunteering in SLA easy

SLA is calling for people to get involved!

SLA members have received yesterday or thereabouts an email from President-Elect Anne Caputo bringing to your attention an online form to communicate your willingness to serve. The form is easy is use, wether you are interested in a committee, council or unit (chapter, division, caucus) position. Here is the list of association-wide committees and councils.

Proposed new name for association up to vote!

In an email sent yesterday to members, the SLA Board announced the new name it's proposing for the association: Association for Strategic Knowledge Professionals, or ASKPro. This proposed name is the results of the Alignement Project.

A special referendum will be taken place from November 16 to December 9. SLA members will be able to cast an electronic vote. The result will be announced on 10 December.

There is a FAQ on the name change on the SLA website and a Facebook page. You can also follow and participate in discussions on Twitter, with the #slaname hashtag. The Alignment Project portal is at http://www.sla.org/content/SLA/alignment/portal/index.html.

Align in '09 and name change

If you were at the Annual Conference (and even if you weren't), you have heard on the alignment research project that SLA has been working on for a few years now.

One thing that was announced at the conference related to the project is that the name of the association is scoring low points in terms of acceptance and recognition. So, the discussion about a potential name change is starting again. You are invited to participate.

On Twitter, you can use the hashtag #slaname. If you think 140 characters is not enough, you can also use a wiki set up especially for that purpose.
