This is my first posting for the blog, on Tech Tools. I thought I’d post break the posting into three tips: a tech tool offered by SLA, a Web (maybe 2.0, depending how you define it) tool for business, and a link to a Web site with more tech tools. These are things I’ve actually used. Please let me know if you like the format.
SLA Tool – a no-brainer for SLA members is the Membership Directory. You can look up members by name, company, city, state, ZIP, and unit membership. For privacy reasons, a while ago the association changed the functionality so you could no longer download lists. You can still look at profiles, and get a full picture of a member’s profile information and membership and participation in SLA groups. To use the Membership Directory and other SLA tools, you’ll need to log in. Email [email protected] or call +1.703.647.4900 if you cannot log in.
Web Tool – Hewlett-Packard Learning Center. You do not need to be an H-P customer or pay anything to use these online classes, in Software and technology, IT professional issues, marketing, business skills and How-to Videos. Usually the courses are taught over a number of weeks by a consultant hired by H-P, and like normal school courses, there is a time limit for completion. If you don’t complete the course (I confess that I didn’t complete a couple of them), you can wait until it rolls around again. They are “live” in that sense.
Web Resource for More Tools – Jane's E-Learning Pick of the Day:
A daily item of e-learning interest selected by Jane Hart of the Centre for Learning & Performance Technologies.
