SLA NY Chapter Happy Hour: Wednesday, Jan. 7, 5:30-7:30 PM

The NY Chapter is holding its first 2009 SLA-NY Happy Hour on Wednesday, January 7th, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Midtown Executive Club.  Hope to see you there for a toast to welcome in SLA's Centennial Year!

Happy Hours are a regular event the NY Chapter organizes to give members a chance to meet and chat.  Prospective members, students and all colleagues also are welcome.

There is no charge to attend, and there is no agenda except to network with colleagues in a quiet space. You will have an opportunity to introduce yourself to the group and make any announcements (such as a new position, job search or job availability). Come and tell us who you are and, if you are looking for something, what it is.

SLA NY Chapter Program: SLA Past, Present and Future (Thursday, Jan. 29)

You are invited to join the SLA NY Chapter for a networking reception and special panel discussion to kick off the association's centennial year. We are fortunate and honored to be able to bring together so many great leaders in one place for a moderated discussion with about the association's past, present and future.

Sandra Baker for NJSLA President-Elect

At our chapter's Holiday Party, to be held Tuesday, Dec. 9, members will vote on the chapter's next 2009 president-elect (2010 president). Sandra Baker has stepped up to the plate as our candidate, and I heartily recommend members support and welcome her.

With 15 years experience in analyzing, compiling, modeling, selling and extrapolating information from data, Sandra currently works with the data and content team of Canon Communications in their Newtown, Pa., office. This team is focused on data from the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries for internal and external usage.

Prior to working in the pharmaceutical industry, Sandra specialized in data in the business and consumer worlds including modeled data, credit data and public record data.

Currently Sandra is focused on pharmaceutical data and providing knowledge to her in-house team as well as sharing this knowledge with other companies, creating a revenue stream based on pharmaceutical intelligence.

The president-elect will have the chance to plan programs, including our participation in the 2009 SLA Centennial Celebration, and develop new and existing tools to serve our members. The chapter also will sponsor much of the cost of for the president and president-elect to attend the SLA Leadership Summit in Savannah, Georgia, in January, and the annual conference in Washington, D.C., in June.

The SLA structure provides for a three-year term of office for presidents and chairs of the international association and its units (such as chapters). As an example, a candidate is elected as president-elect, then serves as president, then as past president, each for a full year. In 2009 I will serve as chapter president and Barbara Burton as past president.

NJSLA's other 2009 officers are continuing terms they began in previous years: Director of Communications Arda Agulian, Secretary Anne Marie Clift and Treasurer Sonal Shukla.
